Today was a pretty good day, and I decided to check out a local bar in the evening because it's apparently the best place to view sporting events. Tonight was the football match (soccer for all you 'Muricans) France vs. Brazil at Paris.
The bar in question is an Irish pub named after this fellow:

In case you don't know him by sight, this is James Joyce. And in case you couldn't tell by the eyepatch, he was a total badass. If you've never heard of him, look him up!
So, after dinner, I rode my bike to this bar just in time to snag one of the last remaining seats at the bar itself with a prime view of the largest screen. The clientèle were very French, but the drinks were definitely very Irish/ Americanized. I opted for Guinness. And it was delicious.
The game itself was very exciting-- a spectacular match, if I do say so myself-- and France defeated Brazil 1-0... which I'm sure very few people were expecting. Regardless, the energy was palpable and the atmosphere was electric. Here is the inside of the bar (kind of):

It was a spectacular evening! I might have to make it a ritual. And for those of you who are wondering, being hit on by French men in bars-- even if they are funny and attractive-- is not all it's cracked up to be. As is the general rule, the more they drink, the stupider they get. Slurred French is more difficult to understand, and you begin to wonder if they're actually interested, or they've automatically switched to night-stalker mode due to the achohol levels in their bloodstreams.
Perks of the night: the first bardtender thought I was adorable and only paid 1 euro for my first pint of Guinness; France won the game; people thought I was actually French (which, to be fair, may have been due to their level of intoxication).
Minor setback: after 2 pints of Guinness, the LAST thing anyone wants to do is bike home uphill in the dark and the cold
*for those of you concerned about my safety while night-riding, worry not: there are working bright lights on the front and back of my bike and I wore one of those obnoxious reflector vests*
But, I made it and changed in to pyjamas while my computer re-booted and decided that I had to share :)
Hope you enjoyed this post. Now, I am le tired and need sleeps before the Guinness buzz completely wears off.
